I will be interning at Dr. Kauffman's lab at the Leichtag Building in UCSD in La Jolla and my mentor will be Dr. Alexander Sasha Kauffman himself. While I'm there I will be assisting the lab members in research the properties of the DNA strand, Kisspeptin1, a sequence that initiates the development and maturing of the reproductive organs. in mice and seeing how it is distributed by the brain through the body. I'm very excited to take a deeper look into neurology, genetics, and reproduction since these topics have always been the most fascinating parts of biology in my opinion. I also hope to learn more about the process that research doctors go through. I'm very nervous about accidentally breaking lab equipment or some other similar scenario because I know that if I mess up than it's not just my internship at risk but also my family having to pay for any damages. I'm also worried about whether I will make a decent internship project, I'm not exactly sure how large scale I can manage an individual project that correlates to my internship.
