Egg Drop Project

For the Egg Drop project, we all had to build a contraption made out of 5 listed materials that will keep an egg safe from breaking when dropped.

The point of the Egg Drop is to create an apparatus that will keep the egg from breaking. An egg breaks when dropped due to acceleration (impulse), KE, PE, inertia, air resistance, and terminal velocity. My egg apparatus consists of a plastic bag(parachute) tied to a paper cone with straws through its point and cotton balls inside the cone. The parachute was added to help the egg accelerate slower and slower till it reaches its terminal velocity. But what if the terminal velocity is to fast and the egg breaks? That's the purpose of the cone. When it falls point-ward down the tip crumples up and absorbs most of the kinetic energy. The cotton balls help the impulse acceleration lower slightly. Though in the speed of any impact a bit more time to slow down can drastically change their outcomes. The straws are for once the cone crumples and decides to fall on its sides the straws will keep it from falling to its sides. My apparatus weighed 13 grams, but sadly did not survive the 10 ft. drop. But apart from that I had fun with this short project.
