PATH Project
The PATH project is a research project in which a group of students pick one place in the San Diego area to research and design and build a fully-functional exhibit which will answer one main Humanities and one main Physics question and the exhibits will be shown to a museum to be shown as a complete exhibition. My own group has chosen to research Belmont Park where we'll record sound coming from it and how it affects the surrounding neighborhood. Our exhibit will be a large map that when you pinpoint with a figurine will trigger the sound dome above to show how much you would hear the from that area on the map; on the sides are 'surf boards' filled with information about Belmont and the huge sign at the top represents the iconic Big Dipper wooden roller-coaster. Apparently the park is quiet most of the year (summertime is the noiseist apparently) and helps attract many tourists, though parking is an issue during weekends and the summer. My assigned job in this project was being the creative director, so I wrote all of the narratives, overviews, and edited a large portion of the caretaker guides for our exhibit. I have to make sure to be very detailed so I can help paint a better picture to anyone who sees our exhibit. I enjoyed my job for the most part, but there were some slight complications with my co-creative director, who wasn't exactly the most productive, much less cooperative, partner to have. But in the end the ups outweighed the downs. During the whole semester of working towards getting ready for our soft opening I helped build and develop pitch packets. I feel this project, apart from helping us get used to working with other people, it forces you to take in mind different perspectives when creating anything. By the end of it, I felt extremely proud of the nearly finished product. Of course it wasn't the easiest of projects, but in my opinion it was the most fun. I probably wouldn't change anything that happened in this project.
