UCSD Lab Visit
Our UCSD Lab Visit was a one day trip we took to Dr. Kauffman's biology lab. The first part of the lab was a presentation about Kisspeptin1, a protein that exists in every living organism that affects the development of the sexual organ as well as puberty and reproduction. After learning about Kiss1 and took the necessary safety precautions, we proceded into the lab to start the hands on learning experience. During this portion we eached observed rat brains and sperm under a microscope, sliced a layer of a rat's brain and mounted it onto a glass slide, dyed those same microscope slides for a clearer image of the rat's brain with just the naked eye, and even helped organize rat tail DNA into different divets on a gel covered tray.
